In 1888 the Central Market was constructed by Kapitan Yap Ah Loy to serve the local tin mining community in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The market went through frequent renovations and acquired its Art Deco style which was popular in 1930s. In 1980s, the building was saved by the Malaysian Heritage Trust from demolition. The place has since become a major tourist attraction for cultural arts and crafts.
